How is marital property divided?
Property acquired during the marriage is generally treated as joint property and divided equally, unless a marriage agreement says otherwise. Assets brought into the marriage or inherited are usually separate.
Who gets custody of the children?
The court decides based on the best interests of the child. For Muslim families, the Compilation of Islamic Law generally places young children under 12 with the mother, but each case is assessed on its facts.
How long does a divorce take?
An uncontested divorce can be relatively quick, while a contested case with property and custody disputes takes longer. We will give you a realistic estimate after reviewing your situation.
